Mulholland Drive / Celine and Julie go boating

mulholland-driveI sat down to watch Mulholland Drive (2nd time) last night, and, about 20 minutes in, was struck by the strong similarities with Jacques Rivette’s Céline et Julie vont en bateau (1974)

I say “strong similarities”, but feel free to choose any out of  reference/homage/plagiarism. I do trust Mr Lynch was not betting on his audience not being overly-familiar with a French film of 30 years previous.

A shame Juliet Berto isn’t making films these days.
